“Protecting Life, Providing Love”
Animal Rescue League of El Paso, Inc. (ARL) is a volunteer based, No Kill shelter. Founded in 1995, we serve El Paso County and Southern New Mexico. ARL focuses on rescuing homeless dogs/cats in our community who either find themselves on death row at Animal Control or on the streets as strays.
ARL rescues, rehabilitates and places approximately 1200-1400 dogs/cats into loving homes a year. All dogs/cats taken in at ARL are spayed/neutered, brought current on their vaccinations, micro chipped, tested for Heartworm, Ehrlichia, Lyme disease or Feline Leukemia before they are adopted. There is no time limit on how long they can stay. We’ve had dogs/cats stay at ARL for years before they find their forever family.
We are a private, non-profit shelter with a 501(c)(3) status. We hope you will take some time to browse our site and learn more about our organization and the precious animals we are proud to serve.
We serve stray, abandoned, orphaned, injured and abused companion animals by providing medical care and shelter in times of need, locating lifelong homes, and promoting responsible pet guardianship through education, legislation and sterilization.
Animal Rescue’s Shelter is located on two acres in Canutillo, Texas, 10 miles north of El Paso. Above the gate are the words “La Quinta Xenecu” … The Inn of the Weary.” Our shelter has become a safe haven and temporary home to 1,000’s of stray, orphaned abused and injured companion animals.
Animal Rescue League of El Paso has been serving the southwest community for over 17 years. Some of our involvement has been wide reaching but the majority is right here in our community. Educating the community regarding the importance of spaying and neutering your pet is one ARL’s priorities. In addition, ARL is always willing to help when we can with our educational out-reach programs, free vaccination clinics, providing the fire department with smoke inhalation masks for pets, and being a part of the Sheriff Department’s new PAWS program.
The community in turn has always been a huge part of Animal Rescue League’s success. Without donations from the community ARL would not be able to survive. Local schools, organizations, businesses and veterinarians, have all been an integral part of ARL’s success.
When special cases arise, from helping displaced people and pets in the case of Hurricane Katrina, or finding dogs or cats in dumpsters or cases of abuse, the community has shown its support by donating to help ARL treat these cases.
ARL could not help those special cases and over abundance of kittens and puppies without the support of our foster families. The shelter does not always have the room to keep these animals. In foster care the animals receive the extra special care and socialization needed to make them healthy, happy and ready for adoption.
Animal Rescue League of El Paso also participates in many animal events and functions in our community. Whether it is adoption events, socialization events, or our own fundraiser/events, ARL is always a part of the community.
